Jaya is the founder and designer of Svaha USA, a brand creating science- and literature-inspired apparel that challenges gender stereotypes in clothing. Raised in India, she learned embroidery and sewing at home from her grandparents, both teachers at a tailoring institute. Her career spans apparel manufacturing, retail buying, and academia, including a PhD from Iowa State University and a faculty position at Marymount University. She founded Svaha USA through Kickstarter after being unable to find astronaut-themed clothing for her daughter.
